About this Book
Encyclopedia Britannica is proud to bring you a comprehensive atlas of our planet- the encyclopedia Britannica World Atlas - complete with the full benefit of satellite imaging, laser measurement, and other modern and accurate mapping techniques.
This 432-page atlas, with an extensive, analytic 33-page introductory section, The world, contains 254 pages of maps and provides a complete picture of our 21st- century world with clarity, detail, and precision. The maps are organized by region: North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia and Oceania (including the North and South Poles). Each section begins with a beautiful 8-page introductory spread on the region as a whole, followed by comprehensive and up-to-date physical and political maps of the region's countries.
The extensive index has more than 100,000 place-names from the reference maps, each with its geo-graphical coordinates. Cross-referencing to alternative and former names is also possible, and many of these names appear on the maps as well as in the index. The index is accompanied by a valuable, explanatory glossary of geographical terms.
